Summary

The Oceanfront Hotel has been in business since 1975.   The building has been completely renovated and upgraded throughout the years.

We have a total of 5 apartments (full kitchens),  12 suites/rooms (kitchenettes),  6 tourist/ guest rooms (no kitchenette) and a tenant laundry room.  We are the only hotel in town.

Currently the owners and managers live in 2 of the apartments and we have 12 long term tenants.   4 of the spaces are wheelchair accessible/friendly.  There are no mosquitoes in this area.  You can leave the patio doors open at night and sleep listening to the sound of the waves.  There is excellent water for domestic drinking.

There is an outside ATM which is the only place in town for people to get cash.  There is no bank on Malcolm Island.

The pub closed during Covid and we have not reopened it.  We are ready to retire and look forward to enjoying the lifestyle that Malcolm Island offers- sports fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and beachcombing.   We pay a manager couple to help with the daily running of the business and we have streamlined our day-to-day operations to be the minimum amount of work.

The pub/ restaurant and commercial kitchen are all still there waiting for the new owners to work as much or as little as they like.

The website has been newly built and new photos taken recently.

The replacement cost of this building would be in excess of 7 million dollars, and they are prohibiting all construction this close to the beach.

Opportunities

·        There are 4000 square feet on the top floor waiting to be developed.  It could be for a fabulous owners’ accommodation or guest accommodation.  There are stunning views across Broughton Strait and fabulous wildlife and sunset viewing.

·        There are areas yet to be developed for more level entry, wheelchair accessible suites.

·        The building has the equivalent of 3 waterfront homes plus solid income opportunities throughout.

·        The top floor and/or pub space also lends itself to art retreats, yoga retreats etc.   No marketing has been done to the younger generations who are interested in mountain biking and kayaking etc.

·        On the street level there is a fully appointed to go, take-out kitchen and window.  It was built during covid.  It is perfect for an ice cream parlour or coffee shop or take out restaurant.

·        There are tiled floors at the beach level which would make part of the beach level space perfect for a sauna or exercise room.

·        Malcolm Island is becoming a  biking and a wedding destination.

·        Our oceanfront rooms with balconies are our best rooms for guests.  They are ready for an upgrade.  Currently they rent for $225 per night and tend to be full during our summer season.  Check out our Trip Advisor reviews.

·        There is a road access at the south end of the hotel which allows easy access to the beach level.

·        Wildlife viewing, whale watching and sports fishing. Exciting halibut and salmon fishing in front of the hotel.  We are in the heart of the North Island ecotourism area.

·        Excellent school on the island.  Community gardens available for rent. The museum  is a big draw for people who want to know more about Malcolm Island’s Finnish history.
